A Horton DM repair kit, a DM/HT-S remanufactured service item, and a PolarExtreme HT/S offering are not three interchangeable ways to order the same part. The right enquiry depends on the installed drive, its revision, the condition of retained hardware, and the work the workshop can carry out. A kit leaves rebuilding work with the workshop. A reman order still needs an explicit component scope. PolarExtreme must be evaluated within its identified HT/S application boundary. Compare only the options supported for the actual unit, and distinguish the supplied assembly from the parts that remain on the vehicle or must be returned.

Identify the Installed Unit Before Comparing Service Routes

Horton's replacement-identification guide starts with the part number, uses vehicle identification when needed, and then directs the buyer to catalog repair or replacement choices. Follow that order. A service label such as “DM,” “reman,” or “upgrade” cannot replace the complete application lookup.

Keep photographs of the identification, the removed assembly, and the hardware expected to remain. Record whether the current drive is the original configuration or a previous conversion. Where the catalog includes a revision note, resolve it before treating the offered part as eligible. A photograph that looks similar is not enough to choose a kit.

This article compares service supply, not the cause of an overheating or engagement complaint. Use the fan-clutch replacement and fitment guide for that earlier decision. Do not expect any service route to correct an unrelated cooling-system problem.

Compare What the Order Actually Delivers

Service route

What the buyer is evaluating

Decision that remains

DM Advantage repair kit

An eligible repair package for workshop rebuilding of retained hardware

Correct kit, usable retained components, service capability and post-repair verification

DM Advantage / HT-S Advantage reman

A remanufactured service item with a stated component boundary

Pack, pack-and-pulley, or other specified scope; what is retained and what the exchange requires

PolarExtreme HT/S

The named HT/S offering and its documented hardware differences

Exact application and revision eligibility, supplied configuration and commercial terms

This is a non-ranked comparison of three named service approaches. It does not establish that all three are available for one installed drive, that one lasts longest, or that the manufacturer's program is offered by every local seller.

DM Repair Kits: Retained Hardware Is Part of the Decision

Horton lists DM Advantage repair kits separately from its reman offerings and also identifies narrower friction-liner, seal, and bearing kits. A component kit must not be priced or described as though it renews the entire drive.

The DM repair-kit brochure, form 23352-A-1120, describes pre-assembled components, dual fan pilots, and included repair tools. Its application cross-reference distinguishes kit families such as 1S-DP-S, 1S-DP, and 1S-DP-L, alongside two-speed families. Similar letters are not permission to select a kit without the application table.

The practical choice: A kit is worth evaluating when the exact application is supported, the retained components meet the service requirements, and the workshop can perform and verify the repair. Ask the shop to identify the parts it will reuse before authorizing the purchase. If that retained scope is unknown, an inexpensive kit can be an incomplete answer rather than a lower-cost repair.

The quotation should separate the kit from inspection, rebuild labor, any additional parts, and the applicable functional verification. A manufacturer's kit-design claim does not determine the labor time for a particular corroded, previously repaired, or misidentified unit. Do not promise a fixed turnaround from brochure language alone.

Reman Does Not Necessarily Mean a Complete Drive

Horton's DM Advantage / HT-S Advantage reman page describes testing and rebuilding to current model specifications, including replacement of obsolete or damaged parts. This is the manufacturer's description of its process, not proof that an unspecified quotation includes every part surrounding the clutch.

Two entries in the official modular catalog demonstrate why the package description matters:

  • 79A7733: A reman version of the 99A4733 clutch-pack assembly, listed for 99A4734/99A4735 pulley assemblies. The clutch-pack description does not establish delivery of the pulley.

  • 79A7630: Listed as a reman clutch-pack and pulley assembly. That is a different supplied boundary from a clutch pack alone.

These are catalog scope examples, not recommended substitutes for an unidentified DM or HT/S drive. The catalog also contains pilot-related revision cautions. Retain the applicable note and drawing with the selected line item instead of relying on the word “reman.”

The practical choice: A reman route can suit a workshop that needs an eligible replacement service item rather than the same internal rebuilding job. But a pack-only price cannot be compared fairly with a broader assembly price until retained pulley, bracket, mounting, and other required components are accounted for. Ask the seller to mark what is supplied, reused, and returned on the same component list.

PolarExtreme Stays Within Its HT/S Boundary

Horton's PolarExtreme HT/S reman page identifies a finned piston friction disc, a D-shaped seal, and a dust seal. Those are concrete hardware features to discuss for a supported application; they are not evidence that PolarExtreme is a universal upgrade for a DM drive.

The HT/S repair catalog also demonstrates revision sensitivity: its 991021/991022 entries include a pre-December-1988 distinction affecting listed repair-kit choices, including PolarExtreme Super kits. A kit listing is not the same deliverable as a PolarExtreme reman assembly. Identify both the installed revision and the proposed service form.

The practical choice: Ask for the eligible PolarExtreme option when an identified HT/S application is being evaluated for that documented hardware package. Require the exact offered reference and its supported application. Do not convert a feature description into a quantified life-extension, reduced-downtime, or lowest-cost promise without relevant evidence.

Keep Core Rules Specific to the Program

Horton's core-exchange guidelines, form 22927-T-0224, distinguish required components by drive type and consider completeness and bracket/pulley modification. They permit a complete core to be assembled or disassembled. Their shipping instructions are for the United States and Canada; they do not establish an identical return route or credit outcome elsewhere.

Before disposing of removed components, obtain the terms attached to the actual order. Do not apply another brand's disassembly rule to Horton, or infer that permission under a core program also authorizes a warranty teardown. The core-charge and return guide covers the general transaction controls without repeating them here.

Choose the Enquiry That Matches the Workshop

Consider three hypothetical cases. They illustrate different purchasing conclusions, not observed customer savings:

  • Supported DM application and capable rebuild shop: Request the exact kit and a retained-parts assessment. Compare the completed repair scope, not just the kit price.

  • Replacement needed without the same internal rebuild: Request an eligible reman with a component-level supply description. A missing required pulley or uncertain exchange core keeps the quote unresolved.

  • Identified HT/S unit under upgrade evaluation: Request the matching PolarExtreme service form and revision evidence. If eligibility is not established, do not force it into the comparison simply because its features sound attractive.

For each eligible route, compare the supplied item, retained hardware work, required additional parts, workshop labor, and any deposit at risk under the actual terms. Use the shop's estimate and seller's quotation; this article supplies no universal price, labor allowance, credit, warranty duration, or delivery promise.

For a reference-based aftermarket enquiry, send Elecdura the installed identity, photographs, required supplied scope, quantity, and destination through the fan-clutch service-parts enquiry. The fan-clutch category is a sourcing entry point. It does not imply that Elecdura operates Horton's reman program, accepts its cores, or is an authorized Horton distributor.

Horton Service-Choice FAQs

Does a seal kit constitute a complete fan-drive rebuild?

No. Identify what the selected kit renews and what remains untouched. A narrower component repair may be appropriate, but it cannot be represented as replacement of all worn components without the relevant inspection and service scope.

Can the workshop order from a DM family label alone?

Use the full installed reference and applicable catalog mapping. Resolve configuration or revision notes before choosing the kit. An unresolved identity is a reason to complete the lookup, not to select the closest-looking family code.

Does a reman quotation include the pulley and bracket?

Only if the exact supply description says so. The catalog examples above show different package boundaries. Request a component list and compare it with the retained assembly before approving the order.

Is PolarExtreme an upgrade for every DM fan clutch?

No such compatibility is established by the cited HT/S program. Confirm the actual unit, revision, and available service form. Do not treat the repair kit and reman assembly as the same product, or use an HT/S feature list as DM fitment evidence.

Does a disassembled Horton core automatically fail acceptance?

The cited Horton rules allow complete assembled or disassembled cores, but the required components and applicable conditions still matter. Obtain the current order-specific decision before changing the core's condition, especially if it is also required for a warranty investigation.
