D500, D600, P600 and Q600 are four Trombetta work-solenoid families, not four interchangeable diesel shutdown parts. The useful buying comparison is the configured actuator and its control package: which family can enter the machine's engineering review, and which mechanical and electrical items are actually included in the offer?

This shortlist starts after the machine's required function, safe state and linkage duty are known. It covers mechanical work actuators, not fluid-control valves, common-rail metering valves, starter contact solenoids or intake-air shutdown equipment. It does not rank the four families by performance or establish an engine-specific replacement.

Four Families: Start with the Documented Configuration

SMP Engineered Solutions' current D500/D600 page and P600/Q600 page provide the following family and technical-document routes.

These series identifiers lead to technical documents. They are not, by themselves, complete saleable order codes with a defined connector, mounting arrangement and supplied accessories. The current page is evidence of an advertised family, not stock availability or approval for a named engine.

1. D500: Include the Internal Switching Boundary

For a D500 proposal, request the full order code and the applicable D513 configuration document. The useful distinction is an actuator with an integral pull-in cut-out function—not a promise that the machine needs no integration work.

The officially linked D500/D600 installation document, revised October 2, 2007, explains that full plunger seating is necessary for the internal switch to disconnect the pull-in winding. An obstruction or incorrect linkage arrangement can prevent that transition. The document is still linked by the current family page; it is not a newly issued instruction for every custom order.

Therefore, a buyer comparing a bare actuator with an installed linkage package should ask who controls the required seating condition. An internal switch cannot settle whether the quoted rod, bracket and machine linkage permit the intended movement. That answer belongs in the approved configuration, not in an assumption made from the family name.

2. D600: Do Not Turn a Legacy Row into a Current Offer

The current family page advertises D600 at 12 V, while the older installation document contains a D610 24 V row. That difference is a procurement hold point, not permission to describe any D600 as a current 12/24 V product.

If a seller proposes a 24 V D600, request the exact current order code and manufacturer-backed specification for that offer. A screenshot of the legacy wiring table is not enough. The possible explanation may be a historical configuration or a specific approved variant, but this shortlist does not establish which explanation applies.

The same discipline applies to force and current claims. A family summary and an older sheet should not be combined into a “best value” rating. Obtain the current configuration-specific data under the machine's required operating conditions. This article deliberately does not reproduce unverified drawing dimensions or rank the families by force.

3. P600: The Pull Actuator Is Only Part of the Choice

The currently linked P/Q600 specification sheet describes configurable voltage, mounts, rods, boots, spring return, connectors and plunger finishes. It distinguishes the 610, 612 and 613 series. A P600 description therefore does not define one universal assembly.

For a P-series offer, ask the supplier to return one selected configuration, not several possible options beside a single price. If the document shows alternatives, identify which alternative the quotation includes. A drawing attached to an email is still ambiguous when the selected option or revision is missing.

Keep the actuator selection separate from the decision about how pull-in and holding operation are controlled. The appropriate arrangement depends on the approved machine application; a similar connector does not prove that an existing controller can be retained.

4. Q600: Push Direction Does Not Define the Machine's Safe State

For a Q-series proposal, compare the selected Q610/Q612/Q613 configuration with the machine's approved motion and mounting requirements. “Push” describes actuator motion, not whether the engine must run or stop when electrical power is lost.

The ETR/ETS and pull/hold matching guide covers that functional identification. Do not repeat the identity exercise by buying a push unit and reversing the linkage until it appears to work. This shortlist assumes the required machine behavior has already been established.

On the purchase order, state the actual approved rod/end connection, mounting and return arrangement. A Q-family name must not stand in for the mechanical package that produces the required machine behavior.

Where the External Control Package Enters the Order

The linked P/Q600 installation document, revised August 23, 2007, distinguishes on-to-run fuel-shutdown use from other continuous-duty engine-speed/RPM applications. It specifies application-dependent control arrangements; some illustrated 24 V arrangements also use an external contactor.

The purchasing conclusion is limited: do not assume all P/Q units need the same module, and do not assume a quoted actuator includes the required control hardware. The supplier and machine technical owner must identify the approved arrangement and allocate its components to the offer.

This is not a wiring diagram. No universal wire colors, jumpers, pin assignments, energizing duration or controller substitution are supplied here. A dated general instruction can identify a question, but the actual installation needs the instructions applicable to the exact configured product and machine.

Compare a Bare Actuator with a Complete Package

Use the following table to expose missing scope. Enter “included,” “retained and approved,” “quoted separately,” or “not specified” against each actual offer. Do not presume that every row is an extra part: the point is to identify what the application requires and who supplies or approves it.

Consider an illustrative comparison: one offer names a D-family actuator only, while another includes a P-family actuator, an identified control device and mechanical fittings. Their unit prices do not represent the same delivery. First separate the included items; then determine whether either complete arrangement is approved for the machine. A fuller box is not necessarily a compatible box.

Release the Configuration, Not a Family Label

Keep the final selected assembly and any required companion hardware on the same approved order revision. If the supplier changes a connector, spring option, rod, module or document revision, review that change before treating the next shipment as a repeat of the first.

For an unresolved current-versus-legacy specification, leave the line on hold and name the missing evidence. For an unresolved delivered-BOM item, request a clarified offer. Neither gap is solved by a brief bench click or by saying the replacement is “heavy duty.” The coil voltage and duty guide addresses a different question—electrical/thermal suitability—not package completeness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these four different manufacturers?

No. They are four named Trombetta families presented through SMP Engineered Solutions. This is an unranked family comparison, not a supplier league table.

Is D600 currently available in 24 V?

The current page reviewed lists 12 V. A legacy 24 V table is not enough to establish a current purchasable configuration. Require a current exact-code confirmation for such an offer.

Does an internal cut-out mean D500/D600 need no linkage review?
